MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE

The group: “My Chemical Romance” is seen by many people, including themselves as NOT an emo band!
So why you would ask do I have them in my playlist?
I for one think that their looks and their sound “fit” in with the whole emo scene and I (like many other people out there) choose to listen to them and like them!

Sept 2007: Frontman Gerard Way, talking to American college website The Maine Campus, branded emo music “shit” during the interview, speaking of his displeasure at his band being incorporated into the genre.

“I think emo’s a pile of shit,” said Way. “I think emo is fucking garbage – it’s bullshit.

“I think there are bands that we get lumped in with that are considered emo and, by default, that starts to make us emo. All I can say is that anyone actually listening to the records, putting the records next to each other and listening to them, [would know there are] actually no similarities.”

Answer from one blogger: just_another_cog Jul 6, 2008
No, no, no, no, no... that is completely NOT what Gerard meant, you know, to any emos out there. He didn't mean that true emo is bullshit. He meant that what emo has become is bullshit. Instead of what it started out as - a music genre - it pretty much evolved (in society's point of view) into black clothes and hair, tight jeans, and long bangs. And, in turn, because most people think that is what emo is, they see My Chemical Romance's black clothes, Gerard's long black hair and mascara and think, right away, "well, they're emo." And many other bands who aren't truly emo are labeled that way. That is what Gerard meant. He just did a bad job explaining himself. A lot of people misunderstood what he really meant.

My Chemical Romance Biography
Note: 3 different ones!
1
· New Jersey, USA-based goth-punk band formed in 2000 by vocalist Gerard Way (b. 9 April 1977, Newark, New Jersey, USA) and drummer Matt Pelissier, with guitarist Ray Toro (b. Raymond Manuel Toro-Ortiz, 15 July 1977, Kearny, New Jersey, USA) joining up soon afterwards. Bass player Mikey Way (b. Michael James Way, 10 September 1980, Newark, New Jersey, USA) and guitarist Frank Iero (b. 31 October 1981, New Jersey, USA) completed the line-up of My Chemical Romance, an Irvine Welsh allusion. The quintet established a reputation on the US live circuit with their melodic hybrid of hardcore and rock 'n' roll, and in 2002 released their album debut I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love on the independent Eyeball label.

My Chemical Romance is one of the most successful Alternative-Rock Emo outfit of the new millennium; the band was founded in 2000 by singer Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissierin in their hometown of Newark, New Jersey USA; with the addition of Gerard's brother, Mikey Way on bass, guitarists Ray Toto and Frank Iero, the band solidified into its current form.
My Chemical Romance's debut album, "I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love", was issued in May of 2002 on the independent label Eyeball Records.

Based in New Jersey, My Chemical Romance is an alternative pop/rock and punk-pop band that has been compared to Thursday and, to a lesser degree, Cursive. Many of their songs are loud, fast, hyper, and aggressive, but My Chemical Romance's work also tends to be melodic and pop-minded. My Chemical Romance got started in the early 2000s, when lead singer Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier decided to try writing some songs together. The first tune that Way and Pelissier -- who had been friends since high school -- came up with was called "Skylines and Turnstiles" (a title reflecting the fact that Way had been working in New York City, where he was in the animation field. This is also about the 9-11 attack). Way and Pelissier both felt good about the song, and Way asked guitarist Ray Toro if he would be interested in working with them. My Chemical Romance's five-man lineup was complete when Way, Pelissier, and Toro joined forces with bassist Mikey Way (Gerard Way's brother) and guitarist Frank Iero. With that lineup in place, the band started playing all around the Northeast Corridor and made plans to begin working on its first album.

In 2002, Eyeball Records (the New York-based indie that Thursday had recorded for) released My Chemical Romance's debut album,(Mikey had been working at Eyeball for an Intership) I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. The album was often compared to Thursday -- a comparison that, for various reasons, was inevitable and unavoidable. Both bands were from New Jersey, both had recorded for Eyeball, and both combined punk-pop's musical aggression with introspective, confessional lyrics. Plus, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was produced by Geoff Rickly, Thursday's lead singer -- add all of those things up, and there was no way that My Chemical Romance was going to escape Thursday comparisons. But Thursday isn't their only influence; reviewers have cited the Smiths, Morrissey, the Cure,The Smashing Pumpkins and the Misfits as influences. And Way has even cited British heavy metal icons Iron Maiden as an influence.
