Your Stylist: Short hair styles you won't regret cutting

Williams

Amen! The grass is always greener when it comes to girls and their hair. When it’s all grown out, you are inspired to get a cute bob cut, but when it’s chopped, all you want are your long and lovely locks back. It seems you just can’t win. But the best thing is to embrace and be thankful for your healthy hair and go with the cut that suits your face and style best.

Since you are confident with a short hair cut, here are some styles that I personally love:

Michelle Williams has a great short cut that isn’t a pixie but still has that gamine appeal. She’s got long layers on top and piecey strands on the side and back. She still seems to be able to tuck her sides behind her ears and sport different parts to be more sophisticated and dramatic for night and easy and casual for day. To me, this just looks like one of those cuts that gets better the dirtier it gets, so by Day 3 of no washing you still look amazing and chic.

80's Makeup Revival: Are you with it?

There was a plethora of teal eye shadows offerings from Nars (pictured above), MAC, Lancome and more on the makeup counters this summer. Couple that with the dark fuchsia, red and purple tone lipsticks for fall and we've got a serious 80's makeup revival in the making. Go lightly if you try it yourself and reserve your first efforts for a fun night out. Remember recent makeup convention has shunned having both a striking eye and lip; but really who likes following rules all the time? That's why style and trends continue to change.  Listen to Sia's Clap Your Hands while you're getting ready and you'll realize that the 80's is influencing more than just makeup and fashion these days. Get great tips from Hope at Brilliant Color and Beauty Today.

Nars Funny Face Lipcolor and JCrew Fall Lookbook

J Crew Fall LookbookJ Crew Fall Lookbook
This fall you'll see military inspired neutrals (especially olive). The JCrew's fall lookbook is full of sassy girl scout inspired pieces with lots of texture, leather, fur, and hats. We love that the JCrew stylists used Nars' Funny Face lipcolor as a "punctuation mark" for an otherwise monochrome palette.

New! Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Lipcolor

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense Lipcolor
New Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense lipsticks are designed with high pigmentation (50% more than average lipsticks) for serious long lasting color.  The fifty shades are divided between three finishes (matte, satin, and pearly) and range from nude to pink to red and even dark purple and black.

We're impressed with the special tool they developed which helps you find the perfect color based on your skin tone and hair color. The tool is on-line and in Sephora stores.  We had a sneak peek of the color wheel and chose three colors one pink (Satin 34), one nude (Matte 4) and one red (Satin 44).  The matte was predictably the driest of the three when applied, it was also the most wearable everyday shade.  The two satin finish lipsticks went on more smoothly and felt soft on our lips.  The red is gorgeous and one we'll wear a lot this fall.

You can find Rouge Artist Intense lipstick at Sephora stores and Sephora.com.

Laser Hair Removal Giveaway!

So far in 2010, I've tried waxing, shaving, and depilatory creams in an effort to find the best solution for lasting hair removal with minimal effort, cost and side-effects like bumps, in-grown hair or rashes. I finally turned to laser hair removal because I wasn't satisfied with my other results. I'm excited to giveaway packages to three of you at the Advanced Derma Laser Tech in NYC worth $450 to $600!

I spoke to Jennifer Kandemir, owner and founder of Advanced Derma Laser Tech, about laser hair removal and its benefits.

Jennifer began her career as a hair colorist in prestigious salons such as John Frieda and Warren Tricomi. After an unfortunate and scarring experience with laser hair removal, Jennifer set out to find a safe and effective laser for women of color. Some lasers are unsafe, as Jennifer found out personally,  because the laser is attracted to darker pigment. This is also why it is not safe to get laser treatments when you have a tan. Jennifer found two lasers that she uses in her office: the Cutera Nd: YAG laser for women with darker complexions and the Alexandrite by Candela Gentle Laser for lighter complexions.

Here are the most important reasons men and women choose laser hair removal: whether you have unwanted leg, arm, bikini, or facial hair, it is a life-long issue and affects self-esteem. The investment in laser hair removal is less than the cost of a lifetime of waxing and shaving. Laser results in permanent removal of unwanted hair. Hair is usually gone after six treatments, though in some cases patients may need maintenance treatments for stubborn areas. Laser hair removal can finally get rid of ingrown hairs or bumps caused by plucking, waxing and shaving.

We're excited to offer three JSG readers laser hair removal at Advanced Derma Laser Tech in New York City.  Pick your choice of six sessions of leg, bikini or underarm areas.  The packages are worth $450-$600 each! Women and men are welcome to enter. Here's what to do: leave a comment below then send your name, phone, and email to jsggiveaway@gmail.com.  We'll select three winners on Friday, July 30th, 2010.
