Moscow Heatwave Continues to Sizzle
Moscow: daily mortality in Moscow has doubled and mortuaries are overflowing amid a sharp smog caused by the worst heatwave in a thousand years history of Russia, officials said on Monday.
The acknowledgment, which days of official silence on tolls broke, came after media reports accused the authorities regarding the extent of the disaster that forced many Muscovities to the Russian capital to flee.
The smog from peat and forest fires burning in nature about 100 km outside the city choked in Moscow for several days and is seeping into apartments, offices and even in the underground.
